Hello.

Assuming I have used the filtering function correctly, if you are reading this, or otherwise interpreting this content by some alternative means, consider your opinion solicited in regards to the following:

1. The "Destroy-It! 4000" has been reassembled without incident, but remains necessarily out of service until its functionality can be tested safely.

Those of you who do not wish to risk experiencing uncontrolled decompression in the depths of space should agree it would be unwise to perform any such tests aboard ship. I would greatly appreciate any assistance in making arrangements for next landfall, if at all possible.

In the meantime, a factory-fresh unit should be arriving imminently. Please do not blow this one up without me.

2. Now that the "Destroy-It! 4000" project is nearly wrapped, I intend to move on to familiarizing myself with the ATVs, the process of which may be summarized as cracking one open and examining its insides. This part is not open to discussion: I am doing it.

The negotiable part: I would like Rhys to accompany me to these sessions.

3. I have been studying the autonomous cleaning machines and am now prepared to attempt repairs as needed. This will be an ongoing project; if any of you are interested in the process, feel free to inquire.

Should Rhys make it through ATV exploration without any regrettable incident, I will consider recruiting him to this task as well.

Also: I have salvaged enough components from various cleaning bots (as you like to call them) to attempt a full reconstruction. This will be a long-term project. I will be asking Ellie Williams to assist me. Opinions on this point are not required.

That is all for now.

what are you doing, sending him into the tubes?

( ...viktor might not get that reference but whatever. )

as long as you think you can manage them both separately, i see no issue
thank you for trying to fix the destroy-it anyway

if you need any muscle let me know
i don't know much about tiny machines, but larger mechanics i can handle fairly well

You've been keeping busy, Viktor.

I think it will be good for Rhys to have something to keep him busy and be of use around here. I can't see him giving you much trouble.

Do you plan to start the ATV project immediately?

[He doesn't bother repeating his earlier thoughts on Rhys assisting Viktor.]

a joke
don't worry about it

( the fact viktor assumes he'd mess around with things mindlessly doesn't feel great. )

sure i could supervise
and i'm also not an idiot but thanks for the vote of confidence

( wait until you see bucky's left arm. )

i fixed up a fishing boat with a friend over a few weeks
doubt it'd be harder than that
cars aren't half as complicated in my experience

( which is to say even without being a mechanic proper, clearly bucky has a propensity for it. )

It's not an objection, exactly.

Depending how long you'd like to look it over and how quickly you think you can put it back together, it may be a good idea to wait until after we make port. There are only two ATVs and we don't know where we'll end up.

If you want an extra pair of eyes on him, I don't mind. He's fairly well behaved in front of me.

( his enthusiasm is awfully endearing. it's a good look for him. )

most ships and cars have several computers in them already, where i'm from

do you suppose the admiralty would honor a request for reapplying whatever we manage to learn?

I don't know, it depends how thorough you prefer to be

And while I understand you were working from scratch, it did take a while to piece the Destroy It back together

ship improvements can be costly
but if we could develop the improvements aboard our own ship, that would cut out a lot of the problem

we could create new rooms with different functions
develop more specialized spaces as we adapt to inmate needs in our specific tenure

maybe even build a kitchen for freshly cooked food

i understand grace quite likes to bake

I say that only because he goes deaf when Travis is in front of him. I've had to physically pull him away from him.

So just keep that in mind.

I'm not pretending to be an expert and I don't know much about you or your methodology. Or how familiar you are with any of the technology here, for that matter

Likewise, you haven't said anything about how long you expect it to take, which was the original point of my inquiry

I said it might be a good idea to wait depending on what you thought, and then YOU leapt to conclusions from there, actually

( oh, that suggestion is still on its way. )

i can understand that
a lot of blackboxes face the same issues where i'm from too, but
if we could prove we know how to apply it appropriately, that we would put it to good use, it'd be wasteful for them to deny us

with the lengths you've already gone to, it shows propensity
maybe what they need is proof positive of our ability to apply this knowledge collaboratively
they have rehabilitation programs like that on earth
encouraging growth through productive collaboration

taking aki's concerns of our only having two vehicles, perhaps if we could produce another with raw materials
that could be the definitive proof we'd need

( see? patience is a virtue. )
