I suppose I should give an introduction as well, since I've just arrived, though I'll admit right out I'm not much for talking about myself. I'm a new Warden, my name is Waver Velvet. I'm from London, which I hope is a recognizable name to people out there. I know that we're all meeting here from different corners of the universe.

Ice breakers do seem a bit awkward in a situation like this, don't they. It feels out of place to say something like "I can't wait to get to work" or "I'm glad to be here". So I'll just say that I'm here to help in whatever way I can. Back home, I'm a professor, and I'd rather handle this position as a teacher rather than an actual warden. I am looking forward to meeting everyone and doing whatever I'm able to.

WARDEN FILTER
I'd rather meet my new coworkers face to face than over this, so I'll be in the lounge going over my materials at Warden Command if anyone cares to chat. But over this is fine as well. I'm not picky.

[Action tags welcome for any Warden who cares to meet. Waver will be sitting at one of the open-air tables looking over his communicator with a cup of coffee. He has a lot of reading to do, so better get that caffeine flowing. Right now, he's going over any inmate information he can access, and is taking some notes. He's planning to hit up the library later to check out books from and about their homelands, to get a better idea of where these people are coming from.]

[After their conversation, Volk spends about 30 seconds trying to figure out what in the hell kind of name Waver Velvet is before deciding he doesn't care.

He's going looking for the guy, though - catches Waver at the e-book download counter and offers a handshake.]

[Waver looks pleasantly surprised. Setting his communicator down on the counter, he turns to offer a handshake to Volk.]

Ah, Mr. Volkhov. A pleasure. Lo-- [There he goes again.] Ah, Waver Velvet. I was actually going to come look for you once I was done here.

[ Lucifer is most definitely not studying, or reading. No, he's at the minibar, where he pulls a flask from an inside pocket of his suit jacket and begins refilling it from one of the bottles at the bar.

He doesn't get liquor in Hell. ]

So, what do you teach, Professor?

[ He sounds British, but he's not. ]

[Give it time, and Waver will be doing the same thing soon enough. He's just a little afraid to advance his pay on his first days here just for some alcohol. Too used to a frugal life, this guy.]

Oh. Sorry. [He sets the communicator down.] Magic. I'm the head of the Modern Magecraft Theories department.

I'd ask if you were one of the newer arrivals, but I don't think anyone has been here much more than a month or so. [He'll bring his comm and his coffee over to the mini bar area. Can't properly introduce himself otherwise. He offers a hand for a handshake as he sets his things down.] Waver.

To start: Do you know if you have the ability to use magic?

That's great to hear. I doubt that we come from the same London, considering how everyone was brought here, but it's still good. I'm from the year 2006 myself.

Too bad, I'm afraid I've been brought here to be boring and not let you throw catastrophic spells around and possible kill me, the others or yourself.

Besides, we'd have to find out if you even have the ability to use it in the first place. It's not something everyone can do, it's not just something you can "figure out". Not where I'm from, anyway.

[Right. A coincidence. Absolutely had to be. The alternative didn't make sense. Just someone with a weird sense of humor. Or edgy parents.]

[Maybe he can get this back on track. He clears this throat.] Have you been assigned an inmate? I just got here, but I had volunteered to take on one I spoke with, at least temporarily. Hopefully I'm not being too presumptuous doing that so soon.

And no, I haven't been assigned one yet. I want to talk to a few of them first, see if I can build a rapport with anyone. That's very important to the therapeutic relationship.

I'm sure I will in time, right now I'm still trying to get settled. Figured I'd stock up on some reading material here to take back to my quarters.

[Look at Volk. Smiling and helpful. But the first thing he did was read up on his potential new inmate, and it broke his heart just a bit. Mistakes had been made, but the consequences... He could certainly relate.]

How have the other wardens been? How have they been treating everyone? [He grabs his communicator, ready to take notes.]

[Well he did want to talk about work but that's over and done with now.

When you're a mage you think you've seen it all, but then this happens. Someone claiming to the the Devil talking up the benefits of therapy.]

I-- That-- That cannot possibly be true.

[Says the guy who became BFFs with Alexander the Great in 1996.]

[ Lucifer tucks his flask back into his jacket pocket, raising his eyebrows at his companion. ]

You can teach magic, but I can't be the Devil?

The same as the inmates! Apathetic.

[He doesn't see a reason not to be blunt.]

Pointing out that basic elements of this setup don't make any fucking sense doesn't bother anyone and that's -

[His temper's getting the better of him in the face of this absurdity.]

First of all, what interest would the Devil have in rehabilitating supposed criminals. Secondly, what could the Admiralty possibly have to offer that the Devil couldn't get by himself. And thirdly, I cannot help but think that if the Devil did exist, he'd probably find something better to do with himself.

First of all, I was rehabilitated, and now I choose to pay it forward and rehabilitate others. Second of all, I don't need anything - I'm here because I want to be. Helping wayward souls is my calling. And finally, I can't think of anything better to do with my time than helping others. Do you disagree? After all, you're here, too.

[ Lucifer is not angry, by contrast. He's used to people not believing he's who he says he is. He may be a little surprised by the vehemence of this stranger, but his response is calm, reasonable. His expression is open, frank. ]
