we used to do this thing at parties called a Friendship Shot
when people got got into an argument and started ruining the mood a third party would come in and call for a Friendship Shot
basically the arguing people just apologized and then took a shot, back and forth until the issue was defused and everybody was friends again

that probably wouldn't work here :(
