[Her voice is calm and clear, with a nebulously English accent. It's hard to pin down anything but 'South London' from her accent, if one's fond of specifics.]
Pardon me if this isn't the done thing, but I've a question and, I believe, an introduction to make. I am of the understanding we are all adapting to these circumstances, but some may have more to adapt to than others.
You may call me Margaret Hugues, or Peg, if you like.
I am curious how many here have had experiences with... well, prison. What did you encounter there? From reading back through this device, it seems to me that much has been made of the conditions here-- which, frankly, I find rather luxurious, if severe in mode. But as I said, we are all adapting.
I suppose I am asking this: Is this place what you would expect, from a prison? Based on your own experiences, of course. If you have been to such a place before, in your home, or in... other places entirely.
Thank you.
[ooc if you wanna hit her up for a log thread, go for it.]

The work, or the industry? Often those are two different things entirely.

[Murder: Technically Illegal.]
I hate the industry. Killing is fine if the fighters know what they're in for.
no subject
Wouldn't that make you more of a mercenary, if you don't use subterfuge?

[She stops typing, rethinks what she was writing. A benefit of this system.]
I realize there is little point in arguing with an expert. You surely know better than me.
Where are you from?
no subject
I'm from California. You?

Other coast of the US. You'd have to drive for two days straight from Boston. Or ride a horse for a year or something.
[Who knows how fast horses are?]
What year is it for you?
no subject
Wherever, or I suppose whenever, you are from-- is murder only technically illegal?
no subject
[A "joke."]
2015. Murder is illegal for most people. It's not illegal if you have all sorts of bullshit connections that let you get away with it. It's confusing but that's the world we live in.
no subject
No, it makes perfect sense. You mean if you're well-connected, moneyed or gently born. It's the same in England.

So what made you take the job?

Yes. We both have something to gain; your freedom, and my contract. There are worse ways to go about it, I think.
no subject
What's worse to you?
no subject
He was given this punishment for crimes quite like yours.
no subject
Yeah, no thanks. I'll take this place. Wardens will lock you up or make you pick weeds or whatever but it's not being crushed to death.
[Thinking about it, the fact that it's boring and gives you too much time to think about it all is basically the worst part of it.]
no subject
Have you been locked up, then? Over what offenses?
