Miyamoto Musashi carved down a boat oar to fight Sasaki Kojirō and his greatsword. Sasaki bragged about his accomplishments and his dojo and his disciples, and Musashi put the oar through his lung and killed him.

It wasn't to show off.

It was to prove he could win even if his opponent had the better tool, and all he needed was the right reach.

I hadn't considered that angle before - [ probably because all his patients back home were already dead ] - but many of them do need help finding things, don't they? I've been encouraging Theo in the garden - he seems to like learning about the plants. Seeing as you've been through the process before, I'd be interested in any insight you have about finding those things.
