[ This audio stream starts off very quietly but crescendos into the scuffling and faint mutterings that can only come from someone fiddling with an unfamiliar piece of technology. ]
—oddamn device always juuuust a little bit different, proprietary pieces of sh—oh, and how 'bout that, it's recording. Uhhhh, welp, okay, let's see, um.
[ All at once the video flicks on, revealing a masked face that is way too close to the camera. He lurches away as if he's seen a monster, shoots the commlink an irritated glare, and it goes dark once more. ]
Frickin'—heeeeelllllllllooo... uh, people. This is, heh, 's not really the entrance I was planning to make, but when life hands you skin, you make a pizza, amirite? That's. Never mind. Real quick question, is there any way to change the ID on this thing.
Hey know what, matter of fact, while I've got you, does anyone around here have experience reversing experimental and extremely invasive surgeries?
[ Soon as the question's out of his mouth, he's sounding progressively more defeated. ]
Could–could really do with a change.

Claire really is the more qualified person for this, but I can't help but be curious.
And I *may* have a less risky alternative, though I cannot be sure it would work, assuming I'd even be allowed.
What all exactly was altered?

Well, that all sounds like it's on the up and up, I have no notes. Uh, everything? [ Beat. ] Well, not everything, ifyaknowwhatI'msayin', heh heh, but uh yeah, I am a yawning empty void of a person now that the guy I had to impersonate is dead. Glad you asked.

Do you want to return to what you looked like before, then?
Or is the goal to start entirely fresh?

Oh shit, I didn't even think about that! Like, pick a whole third option...? [ He makes a face. ] Mmrrp, maybe not. Feel like I kinda got enough in the way of, uh, identity... crises... for one lifetime.
[ This is not, strictly speaking, an answer. ]

I imagine the Navarch could get us a picture of your former likeness to start with.
And if not I have other means.
But anything I can do wouldn't be permanent.
And frankly I think upon graduation, even a surgery would likely revert to your current state.
I was sent back to the moment of my death, personally. I think I was fully returned to my state at that moment.
So you might consider whether temporarily changing your appearance here is worth the pain and potentially disastrous results.
[Just being realistic.]

You really think she—I mean, all my old data was expunged. Thought we'd hafta just maybe work from memory or something, but...
[ But you're having a hard time picturing what you used to look like now, Timothy thinks suddenly. Aren't ya, kiddo? ]
Hey wait wait, hold on a sec.
[ Record scratch. ]
So, when you graduate here, they just send you back? Right where you started? The hell's the point of that?
>>video
First off, she has a record of all your crimes. I imagine she can get a picture.
[Loki sighs, running a hand through his hair.]
And I wasn't sent back the traditional way, I think. Others talked about there being more...choice. But that was another ship. One that was experiencing malfunctions just before I left.
If you like, I can ask the Navarch how it will work, here.
i live, i promise
Whether Timothy overlooks the mention of a picture (of him, his old face, who he used to be) accidentally or by design... hard to say. For a second, he just takes Loki's words in in skeptical silence. ]
What, you think she'll just lay it all out for us, just like that?
sssame
[Which doesn't address the issue of what if she's lying, of course, but he breezes past that.]
Anyway, my point is that you may want to avoid anything too drastic in regards to restoring your appearance. It would be a shame to go through so much pain only to have it revert and cause you pain all over again.
