What it can do is help you understand and process what happened, so that it doesn't do as much harm - to yourself or others. So you can move on, and live your life without being weighed down by it.

If it's already happened, I think I've had no choice but to process it. If I've lived it, I think I understand it.

How many situations in your life have been eased by talking about them, exactly?

Lots. I've gained self-awareness. I've learned to take responsibility for the damage I've caused, and learned to let go of situations that I have no control over. I'm far from perfect, but the things that I lived through - that I thought I understood so well - have gained a new clarity for me.
