I think introductions are in order. My name is Lucifer Morningstar, and I'm a new warden here. For those that recognize my name, yes, I'm probably who you think I am, no, it's not a mistake, and no, I'm not here to kill, maim, torture or eat anyone's soul.

I don't think a soul would have much nutritional value.

Anyway, I'm glad to be here, and I'm used to getting lots of questions, so ask away.

What would the over-under be on getting a piano in here do you suppose? Just curious. It's been ages since I've been able to play, and the minibar makes me nostalgic.

So far we've got a "Norse Trickster God" and now "The Devil"...

WTF is going on in this place?

Incredible things are going on, clearly. Why wouldn't a reformed Loki and a reformed Lucifer be good role models?

I'm not sure if that means it's hopeless because the idea of those two being reformed is so damn out there, or if that's reassuring and means all of this might actually be legit.

Good thing you have time to decide for yourself, then.

Part of me very much insists you both 'prove it' as to your identities.

[Alex isn't actually sure what he'd do if they did prove it though.]

What would you accept as proof? I could show you my wings, though that's a bit difficult with these small devices, I'd rather do that in person. I can look very devilish indeed if I wish, but I usually don't wish. It has a tendency to turn people into a gibbering mess.

[Video is go, and Alex looks....fairly normal. Piercing blue eyes that are slightly shadowed, as if he's sick or unwell. Hood up from his hoodie, under his leather jacket. Ordinary. He might have a hint of smirk on his face.]

You have a good point. But I'm also not so much a skeptic as to disbelieve this place may actually be capable of all the shit it's promised. Name's Alex by the way. I'd say go with the devil-face--trust me, I've seen some shit back home. If you can turn me into a gibbering mess, I'll be impressed.

You understand, I don't want to be responsible for sending an inmate into a downward spiral on my very first day, so this will have to do, for now.

[ He's sure you have seen some shit, Alex, but he is also a warden with responsibilities to you, as an inmate. So his eyes shift, turning red for a moment, and then go back to their normal brown color. And he rolls his shoulders, and one might hear a kind of woosh, and then - yep, there are definitely some white wings popping out of his back, though there's no way to get a good view of them on the CommLink. ]

[Alex snorts and rolls his eyes with the warning, but he gets it. Maybe. Least it showed the guy was dedicated. That was good, right?]

[Oh how Alex WISHED he had access to his shape shifting, on seeing Lucifer's eyes change and the hint of...whatever those were. Probably his wings. It'd be worth it to make his own eyes flash, or bring out his claws or blade.]

Okay, so you can shape shift a bit. Not the first person I've met who can do that.

I came from a New York City in the grips of a viral bioweapon infection that turned people effectively into zombies, if it didn't turn them into outright monsters. Military tried to nuke Manhattan to stop it. That qualify as some shit?

That does sound terrible. I wasn't questioning what you've been through - undoubtedly every inmate here has seen some shit. Maybe my devil face wouldn't faze you in the slightest. But, from my perspective, it's quite a risk to take, when my job is to help you, not cause more harm.

And I have no other proof to give, so I suppose you'll simply have to take me at my word, for now.

[ He says all this straightforwardly, and shrugs. His wings shrug with him. They are beautiful - they glow faintly, even, like they give off a bit of their own light. ]

They're pretty, I'll give you that much. Haven't seen someone shape shift wings before. I have to wonder at your bone and muscle structure, presuming you use those to 'fly'?

[Alex let half a smirk come to his face.]

Besides, that's awfully responsible of you.

[It's unclear whether he's making fun of it or not.]

What can I say, I'm a responsible Devil.

[ Lucifer, quite frankly, doesn't care if he's being made fun of or not. ]

And of course I can fly. They're not just decorative. [ He rolls his shoulders again, and the wings vanish. ] I don't shapeshift. I don't change anything about myself - the wings are always there, I just usually keep them put away. Keeps them from bumping into things so much.

And no, you can't dissect me.

[Alex raises an eyebrow.]

Normally when I hear 'Devil' and 'Responsible', they're not put together like that.

[Alex even kept the sarcasm on that statement to a minimum.]

"Besides, I'd have to kill you first to dissect you--if you were alive it'd be vivisection. Also, rude. I wasn't even planning on it, curious though I am."

[Alex had some ethical standards; at least now anyways.]

You wouldn’t be able to do either one, I’m afraid. One of the perks of being an immortal, invulnerable being.

But apologies for making assumptions. I’ve already had an inmate try to attack me, so it wasn’t entirely out of the realm of possibility.

[Alex just lets out a quiet amused sound.]

There's no benefit to my attacking you. By all the metrics I can measure, there is every incentive for me to actually get along with you. On a personal level I'm just curious if you are who you say you are. On the broader metric, if this place really can pull in a "Reformed" Lucifer, and a "Reformed" Loki, then it means it can do what I want it to do with this whole redemption shit. So while I'm skeptical, I can go with it for now.

[Alex tends to think in enlightened self-interest terms.]

So who attacked you?

Travis Touchdown. He was spoiling for a fight, so I let him take a swing at me, since he can’t harm me.

I have to say, you’re the first inmate I’ve spoken to who seems amenable to rehabilitation. I’m surprised. I didn’t expect anyone to be amenable.

[Alex crosses his arms, thinking to himself for a bit. Studying the other, weighing odds. Then he shrugs.]

Dunno if it's 'rehabilitation' so much as I want to go back home so I can clean up the mess I made. Or continue cleaning it up, rather. I don't trust the Military to do it , since their plan was just to nuke Manhattan to contain the infection. Considering my last memory before being here was flying that Nuke out over the water to try and keep the city in one piece, it only makes sense I'm 'dead' back home.

Got things to do, places to see, you understand.

Would be nice if they gave us an idea of just HOW they want us to achieve this redemption shit though.

It's likely there isn't a specific how. Rehabilitation - reformation - whatever you want to call it, self-improvement - looks different for everyone. How you grow and become a better you will probably be very different from how Mister Touchdown does it, for instance. How long it takes will also vary.

I do think you should be allowed to know what's in your files, however.

[Please don't mind if Alex rolls his eyes. It is hardly the answer he wants to hear. He knew none of this would likely be easy but he wasn't even sure what a 'better' him would qualify as. The rest of what Lucifer says though gets his attention.]

Before he vanished, when a bunch of us first arrived, we all had to play twenty questions with each other. Wardens and Inmates. There was a Warden I talked to, Auditore. He asked to see the Inmate orientation vid, and let me see the Warden one. So we'd know what each was being told.

[There's a point to this, even if Alex is still incredibly skeptical. Icy blue eyes meet Lucifer's own, even through the screen.]

I respected that, and am kind of sad he's gone. Felt like I could've worked with him.

[Now there's a frown, but he's still meeting Lucifer's eyes.]

I agree, we should at least know what's in our files. I'd love to know what's in mine. I've had more than enough of trying to piece together mysteries and conspiracies, thanks.

Sounds like he knew what he was about, this Auditore. I plan to practice full transparency - hence why I'm taking questions now. I understand the actual Devil as a warden is likely to be a hard pill to swallow for some. Trust needs to be established for any of this to work, and that means proving myself trustworthy.

Not sure I ever believed in you being real, if that helps.

[Alex said that with some amused sarcasm. Certainly he knew who Lucifer was, most of the people he'd consumed knew of the devil and had various levels of religious beliefs.

Trust though... That would be much harder. Alex still wasn't sure if Lucifer (or Loki, should he hear of Alex's request for proof) managed to 'prove' they were who they said they were, how he'd react. Or what proof he'd accept.

Damn, now he was wondering if he'd even qualify as having a soul, and how did one prove THAT existed? Was that even important right now. But it would be a helluva sign that this whole thing might actually work for what he needed it to. Just how was the remaining question then.]

You'll have your work cut out doing that.

You don't necessarily have to believe I'm the Devil. What's important is that you understand I'm here in good faith, and I'm worthy of your trust. That will take time, and effort on my part. Simply telling you that you can trust me isn't good enough.

Good to know you recognize that. You're also not 'pushing' for us all to do Therapy right away.

I'm actually looking forward to seeing what you can do.
